Al and Daisy Ortiz - Christ for the City of Miami, Florida
Both Al and Daisy were born in Puerto Rico and lived in New York City as teens. After Al served in the Navy, he met Daisy and they were married. In 1966, Al transferred to Columbia, SC where they came to know Christ and became involved in the Navigators, ministering to Spanish solders at Fort Jackson, SC. Two years later, they started a Spanish church in Columbia. After Al completed his education, they served as church-planting missionaries in the Dominican Republic. While in the Dominican Republic, Al and Daisy started two churches, and Al was instrumental in starting both a seminary and a center for ministerial studies to train lay leaders. From 1981 through 1984, Al started a research project for Miami that became his masters' thesis. In 1990, the Ortizes were called to Miami to work among the growing Hispanic population. They work in a joint effort for Latin America Mission and World Team in a project called "Christ For The City Project." Al and Daisy are gifted in church planting and leadership development and continue to be actively involved in reaching the Hispanic population in Miami for Christ. "Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmovable, and always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord." I Corinthians 15:58
